you know, i had a wonderful thought the other day. i was working as runner, and i was driving the pargo through the parking lot to alligator bayou. driving the pargo as a runner is probably my favorite thing to do at work. i have time by myself and i do a lot of thinking, and sometimes praying. i also sing a lot, especially christmas carols!!
anyway, as i was driving thorugh the parking lot, the sun was reflecting off of all the cars and shining so brightly in my eyes. i had forgotten my sunglasses that day, and the light was so glaring and so bright, i could hardly even see. at first, i was angry, holding my arm up to try and shield some of the light. but then i got to thinking about how the eye works and i became so amazed.
just stop for a moment and think about it. i have no idea how it actually works, the technicality of it, or the scientific stuff, but just the general thought blows me away.
through your eyes, you see an image (which is amazing in itself) and in less than a split second, that image has been imprinted on your eyes and sent to your brain, which has registered the object and identified what it is and sent it to the part of your brain that allows you to recognize things. and it's not only one object at a time. you can see multiple things next to each other, as well as the background, and things in the foreground, and on the sides, your peripheral vision. and your brain is able to see all that, and process everything, and send the appropriate messages to all the appropriate places. and this all happens while you are thinking other things as well.
the human eye is an amazing thing. and all the brilliant colors! it sure makes for a very beautiful seeing life!
i cannot help but wonder if animals' eyes are the same? i mean, can they see in color? can they see in dimensions? can they see as sharply as we can? i know i never will know (at least, until i get to heaven!) but it sure is interesting to think about. some people claim to know, for example, that dogs are colorblind, but i really do not understand how they think they know this. i mean, did the dog tell you?!?
even the people like me, who have horrible vision, can correct their vision! i wonder whatever possessed someone to take a little piece of plastic and stick it in their eye (contacts) to fix their sight. or take some glass made a certain way and perch it on their nose with wire? some minds are just so BRILLIANT and i admire them so much!
then of course that also leads me to wonder whatever made somebody strap two sticks to the bottom of their feet and take off over the side of a snowy mountain? or whoever developed a plunger? how did they know that would work? or how do people read telegraphs? how do they memorize the morse code and know how to send and receive using it? or how did someone know that rubbing two sticks together would create a fire?
oh my, sometimes i feel so .... dumb, i guess. like i will never understand the things all the great minds do.
anyway, i am amazed by eyes. God sure as shootin' knew what He was doing!! thank you, Lord, for my sight!!!

gingerbread and holly
oh, i cannot WAIT for christmas!! it is my absolute favorite time of the year! it is starting to get rather chilly here at night .... we definitely need jackets once the sun goes down. probably a big disappointment to those of you who think florida is all sunshine ...... it's still beautiful here, just with a chill breeze in the evenings ....
and i LOVE that chill breeze because it makes me so excited for the holidays! there is something so beautiful and sweet about christmastime. i love everything about it!!
this will be my third christmas this year!! for those of you who do not know, i had amnesia in october of 2005. so my "baby's first christmas" was when i was 17 years old!! let's just say i was extremely overwhelmed and confused that year. but i got much more into it last year, and now i am super pumped for december 25 this year!!
i cannot wait to walk in the crisp, cool air. i cannot wait to listen to christmas carols. i cannot wait to sip hot chocolate. i cannot wait to read the Christmas story from the Bible and reflect on what we are celebrating. i cannot wait to buy gifts for all of my friends and family. i cannot wait for the excitement and cheer that fills my heart at this time of year. there is just something about christmastime that makes everything so happy ... so wonderful ... so amazing ... so pure ... so beautiful.
this will be the first christmas i will not celebrate with my family back in oklahoma. and i believe this is the first year my family will not be complete on christmas day. with it being only my third christmas, i don't really know better, but i know it will be different for my family to not have everybody there. yet i know we will all be together in spirit.
i am so thrilled about christmas that i broke out a christmas movie when i got home from work this morning. and i am going later today to buy some christmas cds. it's about time we got some holiday cheer in this place!!!!
merry christmas to all!!!

ring pop candy
whoever designed ring pops? the motion of holding your knuckle to your mouth like that is not really a natural one ...
it makes more sense to hold something IN your hand WITH your fingers to eat it rather than sticking it ON your fingers ....
but kids love them. i loved them when i was younger. all that stuff ... ring pops, candy baby bottles, candy necklaces, everything! i remember the days when the only worries i had were if i would have the blue raspberry flavor or the cherry flavor.
oh, the good ol' days ......

teeny
sometimes i feel so small. so tiny. sometimes that's good. sometimes not.
i feel small when i think about how huge God is. He is everything and i am nothing. i am miniscule compared to Him. yet i know He still loves me and holds me in His Hand.
i feel small when i think about my life. how unimportant it all is. i feel like i am not making a difference in anybody's life. what i am doing does not have much importance in the big scheme of things. sometimes i get jealous of keaton. i know being in the army will not be an easy job, but at least it is IMPORTANT. at least he will be making a difference for many many lives, for entire countires!!
i feel small when i am on an airplane. i look down and see teeny tiny headlights and imagine teeny tiny people driving and walking along their teeny tiny stretch of land we call cities, hurrying to their next teeny tiny task or job, and i feel so stupid. everyday i get up and get into my "big" truck and head to do all my "important" stuff. but when i am on an airplane i am reminded how small everything "big" in my life truly is.
i feel small when my hand is in keaton's. i feel so dainty. he has big hands, man hands, and mine are so tiny. i feel so safe when he has my hands in his. like he is protecting me, protecting my fragile self from whatever may come.
i feel small at Christmastime. i have a large, loud family and when we are all together things get a little crazy. last year, i stopped during all the chaos for a moment, just to think. and i realized how small i am. everybody was talking at once, there was commotion all over the house, and i thought to myself "i am so small".
but i love my small life. truly i do. sometimes i wish i did have more "important" tasks on my daily plate. but i absolutely love waking up every morning with my tiny, mundane tasks ahead of me. i love going through my lists every day and checking off all my tiny things. it gives me a purpose.
and, like i said, at least i know God has got me in His hand. and that is HUGE.

i mean, i have one blog already. it is about the internship i am currently working at disney world. it is mainly so that i can keep in touch with family and friends back home without having to repeat the same info over and over again. i have not been super faithful with that one, to be perfectly honest ... but i am going to make an effort to actually keep up with this blog!!
the theme is pretty simple, it will just be musings of mind, of course! ... i have NO idea what each post will be about, but i'll find something .....
hope you have fun!
