i can see!!

you know, i had a wonderful thought the other day. i was working as runner, and i was driving the pargo through the parking lot to alligator bayou. driving the pargo as a runner is probably my favorite thing to do at work. i have time by myself and i do a lot of thinking, and sometimes praying. i also sing a lot, especially christmas carols!!

anyway, as i was driving thorugh the parking lot, the sun was reflecting off of all the cars and shining so brightly in my eyes. i had forgotten my sunglasses that day, and the light was so glaring and so bright, i could hardly even see. at first, i was angry, holding my arm up to try and shield some of the light. but then i got to thinking about how the eye works and i became so amazed.

just stop for a moment and think about it. i have no idea how it actually works, the technicality of it, or the scientific stuff, but just the general thought blows me away.

through your eyes, you see an image (which is amazing in itself) and in less than a split second, that image has been imprinted on your eyes and sent to your brain, which has registered the object and identified what it is and sent it to the part of your brain that allows you to recognize things. and it's not only one object at a time. you can see multiple things next to each other, as well as the background, and things in the foreground, and on the sides, your peripheral vision. and your brain is able to see all that, and process everything, and send the appropriate messages to all the appropriate places. and this all happens while you are thinking other things as well.

the human eye is an amazing thing. and all the brilliant colors! it sure makes for a very beautiful seeing life!

i cannot help but wonder if animals' eyes are the same? i mean, can they see in color? can they see in dimensions? can they see as sharply as we can? i know i never will know (at least, until i get to heaven!) but it sure is interesting to think about. some people claim to know, for example, that dogs are colorblind, but i really do not understand how they think they know this. i mean, did the dog tell you?!?

even the people like me, who have horrible vision, can correct their vision! i wonder whatever possessed someone to take a little piece of plastic and stick it in their eye (contacts) to fix their sight. or take some glass made a certain way and perch it on their nose with wire? some minds are just so BRILLIANT and i admire them so much!

then of course that also leads me to wonder whatever made somebody strap two sticks to the bottom of their feet and take off over the side of a snowy mountain? or whoever developed a plunger? how did they know that would work? or how do people read telegraphs? how do they memorize the morse code and know how to send and receive using it? or how did someone know that rubbing two sticks together would create a fire?

oh my, sometimes i feel so .... dumb, i guess. like i will never understand the things all the great minds do.

anyway, i am amazed by eyes. God sure as shootin' knew what He was doing!! thank you, Lord, for my sight!!!
